Engine problem forces AA Philadelphia flight to turn back
The American Airlines flight scheduled today from Philadelphia had to turn back mid-flight after developing mechanical problems in one of its engines.
Flight 825 was expected to arrive in Bermuda shortly before 2pm but the aircraft — an Airbus A319 — turned back about 40 minutes into its journey after the alarm was raised.
The flight made it back to Philadelphia International Airport without incident and passengers were able to board a replacement aircraft before starting their journey again.
An airlines spokesman told The Royal Gazette: “American Airlines flight 825 with service from Philadelphia to Bermuda returned due to a possible mechanical issue.
“The aircraft taxied to the gate under its own power and was taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team. Customers have since re-departed on a replacement aircraft.
“Safety is our top priority and we apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.”
The flight is listed as “delayed” on the airline’s flight tracking portal.
