Somersfield pupils showcase their public outreach projects
Private school pupils raised more than $9,000 for several charities as part of a yearly community outreach effort.
Somersfield Academy’s M3 classes put their group projects on full display on May 29 during the M3 Community Project Showcase.
The projects focused on several charitable causes, including environmental and animal welfare, as well as mental health support.
One pair created a children’s book to spread awareness of neurodiversity — efforts which were aided by hosting educational sessions and helping Solstice’s programmes for children with ADHD.
A dedicated team of students worked alongside the Bermuda National Trust to rejuvenate Somersfield’s micro-forest by planting native plant species.
Another team organised a raffle and a bake sale to support children’s access to therapeutic art programmes.
One trio of pupils led an awareness campaign about canine parvovirus prevention and dog adoption through presentations, assisting Forget Me Not Canine Centre and putting up informational signs across the Railway Trail.

The outreach efforts were designed for pupils in the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years Programme.
A Somersfield spokeswoman said the projects helped youngsters strengthen their teamwork and critical thinking skills through causes they cared about.
Kelly Rodday led the M3 class through every step of the pupils’ projects.
She said: “The M3 Community Project not only empowers students to engage with local issues — it also encourages them to become responsible, reflective and active global citizens.”
