Khano Smith watches from stadium roof after being sent off
Khano Smith was forced to watch the second half of his side’s match from the roof after being sent off on Friday.
The Bermudian coach stood atop Centreville Bank Stadium after he was shown a red card for foul and abusive language at half time as his Rhode Island Team played against Portland Hearts of Pine in the Jagermeister Cup on Friday.
While Smith’s presence could still be sensed as he watched down from on high, his absence on the touchline was not keenly felt as his side ran out easy 4-1 winners.
The incident led to Smith being featured on a number of high-profile shows with influential show Men In Blazers, one of the largest football podcasts in the world, airing the footage.
Smith’s assistant Dave McKay was left to explain what happened after the game with the head coach unable to talk to media outlets as per competition rules.
“I wasn't there, so I can't really comment too much,” McKay said.
“The conversation with the referees was that we wanted to speed up the game. They were slowing it down in terms of free kicks and goal kicks and he was asking the referee to speed it up.”
Smith will now miss Rhode Island’s next Jägermeister Cup game against Hartford Athletic next month.
