Woman admits assault, knife possession

A woman assaulted a police officer while being arrested at Hamilton Bus Terminal after reports of a fight.

Nacira Ratteray, 19, admitted the assault, violently resisting arrest and having a knife in public when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday..

Police responding to a reported fight at the terminal on Wednesday followed a trail of blood drops and saw Ratteray near Washington Lane, the court heard.

Ratteray, from Smith’s, denied being in the fight, kicked one officer in the thigh and resisted arrest.

Officers found the knife and took Ratteray to Hamilton Police Station.

Ratteray said during a police interview that she had been attacked before officers arrived.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos ordered a social inquiry report be written for Ratteray, adjourned the case to August 28 for sentencing and released her on $2,000 bail until that time.
