Bermuda coach Alec Shepherd has hailed his team’s brilliant showing in the Carifta Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships in Trinidad & Tobago at the weekend.

The island’s contingent came away from the two-day championships with eleven medals, including four gold, and also made a clean sweep of the podium in the 11-12 girls triathlon.

“This has been a fantastic weekend for a very special group of athletes. They have given everything to be the best they can be and it has been wonderful to watch,” Shepherd told The Royal Gazette.

“The conditions in Tobago have been well out of their comfort zone but have adapted and have not let anything faze them.

“Each and every one of them has played their part. They have supported each other so much and should be very proud. Their coaches and team managers certainly are and their success is richly deserved.”

Dylan Eiselt claimed the silver medal in the 13-15 boys, while narrowly missing out on the podium was defending champion Sanchez Smith, who crossed in fourth in 34:37.

It was also a proud moment for Riana Robinson who earned the bronze medal in the 13-15 girls triathlon while Durkin achieved the same feat in the 11-12 girls Aquathlon for her second individual medal at the championships.
