Aviation group to host Skies ‘N’ Ties forum
A group of flight enthusiasts will host an event this week at LF Wade International Airport to spread more awareness about opportunities for Bermudians in the aviation sector.
Aviators Alliance Bermuda will host Skies ‘N’ Ties on Friday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the outdoor lounge at the airport.
“This dynamic gathering will bring together aviation professionals, educators, policymakers, private enterprise and youth to engage in strategic dialogue and networking aimed at shaping Bermuda’s aviation future,” the group said.
It added: “With the vision of seeing Bermuda become a leader in aviation training and innovation, Skies ‘N’ Ties offers a platform for collaboration, vision-building and action.”
Through such forums, the group intends to empower the island’s youth, strengthen aviation infrastructure and position Bermuda as a regional aviation hub.
“Whether you're a student, pilot, educator, policymaker or simply passionate about Bermuda’s future in aviation, your voice matters,” the group said.
Tariq Lynch-Wade, a founding member of the group, said with the island’s heavy reliance on the aviation sector to support its economy and the community, natural attrition will require grooming and succession planning for organisations to provide the necessary talent to take on various aviation roles.
He said: “When considering the additional jobs created by having new companies such as BermudAir and Blue Sky Flights, there is growth potential to introduce new aviation disciplines for the next generation to explore.”
Since its formation last year, he said, the aviation group has received continued encouragement from the community along with industry stakeholders to “keep the conversation alive”.
He added: “We believe that the evolution of our efforts will help create pathways for Bermudians to consider the aviation industry being a viable career path.”
Mr Lynch-Wade said since the body’s members all hold full-time jobs, it is taking a “measured approach” to determine what types of events provide and support optimal impact for its vision.
He added: “We aim to have periodic events that hope to engage industry stakeholders and the community to determine how tangible opportunities can be created on island.”
