Teams poised to battle for vacant BGA Team Challenge title
New Bermuda Golf Association Team Challenge champions will be crowned at Port Royal Golf Course on Saturday.
Tournament organisers have confirmed that Fantastic Fore, comprising Sue Maisonneuve, Angela Cook, Sarah Murphy-Christopher and Elaine Gaugain, are not returning to defend their title.
The foursome won last year’s event at Tucker's Point Club by two points over GHIN & Tonics (Paddy Graham, Richard Fulton, David Souter and Ronan Kane). Dream Team, featuring Adam Perry, Oliver Betschart, Darina Betschart and Lewis MacFarlane, rounded out the top three finishers.
The BGA’s season-opener is a team handicap stroke-play competition consisting of teams of four players using the Stableford scoring system, with the score of two balls to count. Teams may comprised four players regardless of gender, age or handicap.
Teams are awarded one point for a bogey, two for a par, three for a birdie, four for an eagle and five for an albatross.
The handicap for both men and women is 85 per cent.
The gross score for each hole should be recorded against the name of the player who made the score. A minimum of two scores should be recorded per hole to gain the maximum available points (two balls count). There is no penalty if two scores are not recorded, as this is a Stableford competition.
The men will tee off from the blue tees, senior men (60+) from the white tees and women from the red tees.
Prizes will also be awarded for the men’s and women’s longest drive and closest-to-the-pin competitions.
The tournament will begin at 12.30pm with a shotgun start.
