Appreciation for a wonderful memorial

Family, friends, and members of the Bermuda Police Service gather at the Hurricane Fabian Memorial Bench on Kindley Field to honour and remember the lives lost on September 5, 2003, marking the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

Today, we, the organisers of the Hurricane Fabian Memorial Service, take this time to thank all who took part or came out to the service on September 5.

Special thanks to the Minister of National Security, Michael Weeks, the Bermuda Police Service, The Royal Gazette and journalist Stefano Ausenda, and the Department of Parks, which ensured the park was manicured to perfection.

The day started with early-morning rain, then it stopped. At 2pm, several people came together for the Hurricane Fabian Memorial Service to honour three police staff and one civilian who died during Hurricane Fabian’s landfall on Bermuda on Friday, September 5, 2003. Then, about two hours after the service, it rained again and then stopped.

The Lord answered our prayer and gave us a wonderful memorial service.

When we speak of the unsung heroes of Hurricane Fabian on September 5, 2003. We take this time to remember the mechanics from the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and firefighter Shannon Caisey, the many people in our communities who came to the aid of someone in need, members of the EMO, and all uniform services personnel.

Let us continue to help one another when need arises, and may God continue to bless Bermuda and her people. To God be the glory!

As it is said of them of old, "a unified team makes a big difference in the world because a clear, shared purpose allows diverse individuals to collaborate, innovate and support each other towards common goals, leading to enhanced performance and meaningful impact in any endeavour. This collective effort fosters innovation, boosts morale and ensures that diverse talents are channelled effectively, transforming a group of individuals into a powerful force capable of tackling complex challenges and achieving significant success.“
