Short day in Parliament after King contracts Covid-19
Robert King, the Leader of the Opposition, tested positive on Friday for Covid-19 and had to leave the House of Assembly early after legislators resumed business following their summer break.
Mr King, the MP for Smith’s North (Constituency 10), said he felt unwell during the morning parliamentary session and tested positive for the virus when he returned home.
He explained: “I shifted my meetings online and am at home with my wife, and will continue to take all necessary precautions as per the Bermuda government guidelines.
“Following government guidelines, I informed all close contacts immediately.”
Clark Somner, the Clerk to the Legislature, added last night: “During the afternoon session of the House sitting on Friday, a member informed the Deputy Speaker, who was presiding as Acting Speaker for the day, that they were not feeling well and would be out for the rest of the meeting.
“The sitting continued on as usual with the remaining House business for the day, and the House adjourning shortly after 5pm.”
