Ebonie Cox endured a difficult outing in her second appearance on the Sapphire Golf Tour in Atlanta.

The top local women’s golfer finished tied for eleventh with a 28-over 170 among the field of 14 that competed in the Château Élan Women’s Golf Invitational held at the title sponsor’s resort and winery.

Playing from the yellow tees, Cox shot an opening round of nine-over 80 that included a birdie, six bogeys and two double bogeys, and left her ninth, 11 shots off the lead pace.

However, her hopes of better fortunes in the second and final round were dashed by erratic play from the tees.

Cox carded a round of 90 that contained five bogeys, five double bogeys and a quadruple bogey to slip two places farther down the leaderboard.

The experienced professional player struggled with her swing throughout.

“I just could not find a swing,” she told The Royal Gazette. “It’s not often I stand on tee boxes and have no clue where the ball was going to go.”

She added: “While I’m very disappointed with the way I played, I’m extremely proud of myself for sticking it out,” she said.

Cox arrived in Atlanta with momentum after finishing third and earning $2,500 in prize money in the tour’s inaugural event in Maryland in August.

Georgia Oboh (143) came from four shots back to pip overnight leader Christyn Smith (144) for the title.
