Tartaglia and Faries win trophy at World Senior Championship
John Tartaglia and Ed Faries captured silverware at the 65th World Senior Golf Championships in Denver, Colorado.
The duo teamed up to win the consolation flight in the matchplay competition, which proved to be the island’s brightest moment at the championships held at the Omni Interlocken Resort and Spa.
Also representing Bermuda in the competition, which featured players placed in flights of eight based on handicap, was the pair of Geza Wolf and team captain James Ferguson, who found the going tough.
The championships also featured team and individual strokeplay events held simultaneously.
Bermuda finished twelfth among the 13 countries in the team event, with each team’s three lowest scores counting towards their overall combined total.
The island has competed at the event for more than 25 years and won several awards, including finishing runner-up in New Mexico last year.
However, apart for the success of Tartaglia and Faries, the island was unable to replicate that success this time around.
More than 100 senior golfers competed in this year’s championships, which featured the return of teams from Germany, New Zealand and South Africa.
