Gathering aims to empower older women
An event to inform and inspire women, especially those who may be reaching retirement age, is set for this month.
Elaine Butterfield, the former executive director at the Women's Resource Centre, created and is hosting The Gathering which will include a line-up of inspirational women engaging in “transformative” discussions and presentations.
The event, scheduled for the Willowbank Resort and Conference Centre in Somerset on October 17 and 18, aims to arm those navigating, or who are about to navigate, the second half of life with “wisdom, resilience and renewed purpose”.
Ms Butterfield said: “For more than two decades, I’ve dedicated myself to advocacy, education and support services for the empowerment of women and their families.
“It’s never been just a career — it’s been a calling.
“As I look back on the many roles I’ve held and the lives I’ve touched, I’m deeply aware of the wisdom and growth these experiences have poured into me.
“Now, in a season where society suggests I should slow down, I realise instead how much I’ve gained, how every step has prepared me to step fully into becoming the most empowered, authentic version of myself.
“I have discovered that many women feel this way, however many of us struggle with the knowledge of what to do now? Many times, we end up settling for less than we desire.
“The Gathering welcomes women of all ages, with a special focus on women who are retired and seeking purpose, connection and joy in this new chapter; women who are approaching retirement and preparing for what is next as well as younger women [aged 21 or over] eager to live intentionally and plan ahead.”
Angela Joell: The opening keynote speaker and financial planning expert will speak on “financial insecurity to empowered stability”
Therapists from Solstice: Therapists will engage a discussion on sexual, physical and mental health
Keema Perry: Ms Perry will aim to equip the audience with skills to manifest strengths within us
Kirsten Beasley: Ms Beasley will encourage women to dream big and define success on their own terms, and help them to understand how powerful they are
Alexa Lightbourne: The Minister of Home Affairs will be the closing keynote speaker. She will speak on “retiring in paradise”, Bermuda’s economic trajectory and how it affects our retirement prospects as women
The day will culminate in a panel discussion with the panellists moderated by Elaine Butterfield.
Discussions will be held on life transitions, speakers sharing real stories and strategies for thriving in every season, empowerment to embrace new chapters with confidence and clarity, and “sweet surprises to nourish body, mind and spirit”.
The Gathering will begin with a barbecue and comedy featuring Gina Davis [stage name Gina Love] on October 17 at 7pm until 8.30pm.
It will continue on October 18 from 9am until 5pm including continental breakfast and lunch.
Part of its proceeds will go towards the Women’s Resource Centre.
Ms Butterfield added: “Come as you are. Leave renewed, inspired and deeply connected to your purpose.”
