A Bermudian model has become a style icon in Britain after being featured modelling tights for a women’s clothing company.

Tiffany Wells, 39, appeared in the newest catalogue for Snag, which displayed her in advertisements across the country.

Ms Wells said that it was good to see herself in these national adverts, especially as a plus-sized woman who did not feel represented growing up.

She said: “I’ve been plus-sized my whole life and I didn’t see a lot of women who looked like me in areas of beauty and fashion.

“So for me to have this opportunity feels great — I’m being the representation for that little girl that I always wanted to see.”

Posters of Ms Wells, who does fashion merchandising as her day job, were mostly seen in the London Underground between early September and last Sunday.

Other photographs of her were featured on Snag’s website, which sells leggings, tights and other women’s clothing.

Ms Wells said that she had worked with Snag since 2021 by doing model work and advertising through social media.

She explained that she appreciated the women-founded company for being inclusive and having high-quality clothing.

Ms Wells did a photoshoot with the company over the summer and was told that her pictures would be used in advertisements across Britain in “early September”.

She admitted that she did not get an exact date, but soon received calls from friends.

Ms Wells added: “People spotted me before I spotted myself.

“Most of the things I’ve posted over social media were pictures that people have sent me.

“I had a couple of people DM me, ‘Oh my gosh, I saw you on my commute’ or ‘I thought that was you so I had to look a couple of times’.

“It’s great that the couple of Bermudians I do know in the UK or even other friends were able to spot me.”

Ms Wells is no stranger to modelling. She made a name for herself in Bermuda by modelling for the department store Trimingham’s under her maiden name Tiffany Butterfield-Douglas.

Ms Wells was first runner-up in Bermuda’s Miss Big & Beautiful Pageant in 2008.

After moving to London in 2011, she modelled in the British Plus-Size Fashion Weekend in 2014.

Ms Wells also participated in Miss Plus-Size United Kingdom in 2016.

Despite her experience, Ms Wells told The Royal Gazette that seeing herself in advertisements “never gets old”.

She said: “I think it’s quite surreal because I’m not a full-time model. This is kind of like a passion project I do on the side of my nine-to-five job.”

Ms Wells added: “Transit for London is massive; there are thousands and thousands of people who use it.

“So the fact that little old me is being included in this ad felt amazing.”

Ms Wells said that it was important to have models of all looks and sizes because it showed everyone that they could look good no matter what.

She added: “Doing this showed that someone like me who isn’t an hourglass figure, who looks like a very normal woman, can be chosen to be in these ads.

“It feels like I’m representing a lot of people and that makes me feel very proud.”
