Nahki Wells unavailable for clash with Jamaica
Bermuda captain Nahki Wells will play no part in the World Cup qualifying clash with Jamaica on Tuesday night (9pm).
The Bermuda Football Association confirmed that the forward did not travel with the squad to the Caribbean as a result of “personal family reasons”.
Wells has featured in all of Bermuda’s matches in the final round of qualifying until this point, but whether he rejoins Michael Findlay’s squad for the rest of the group stage may hinge on the outcome of the game against the Reggae Boyz.
“I am committed to the tournament but there’s no doubt that I'll have some decisions to make if we are unable to pick up maximum points in the next round because that gives ourselves a really big task,” Wells said in the build-up to last Friday’s 3-0 defeat against Trinidad & Tobago at Flora Duffy Stadium.
Bermuda are anchored at the bottom of group B with no points after losing their first three fixtures.
Upon his return to training with Luton Town, Wells will get the chance to meet new head coach Jack Wilshere.
The former Arsenal and England midfielder, 33, has replaced Matt Bloomfield, who was sacked this month after Luton dropped to eleventh in League One following defeat to Stevenage Borough.
Wilshere, who was capped 34 times and also had playing spells with West Ham, AFC Bournemouth and Aarhus GF, cannot wait to get started at Luton, where his journey in the sport began as a youngster.
“It feels like a full-circle moment for me,” Wilshere said on the club’s official website.
“I was 8 when I first came to Luton as a boy, so I guess you could say it’s fate that my first full-time club managerial position is at this club.
“It’s a huge honour and a privilege to be named Luton Town manager. I couldn’t be more delighted to be here and I can’t wait to manage this football club.”
