Single mothers get a home thanks to charity and volunteers
Habitat for Humanity Bermuda has transformed a dilapidated property into affordable housing for single mothers and their families.
A statement from the charity this week said the development of Grace Place was made possible through an anonymous donor and “represents hope for families seeking stability and a brighter future”.
It added: “After an incredible job done by our dedicated contractor, Habitat is thrilled to announce that all four apartments are completed, and the remaining two families were able to move in to start their new lives.
“Habitat received funding through fundraising campaigns over the past year raising enough money to complete the project to a high standard, on time and within budget.”
The charity thanked volunteers from Talcott Financial Group who helped paint the building and the anonymous donor who owns the property.
A statement from the donor said: “Our mission is to give single mothers a genuine opportunity to provide a safe environment and the time and space to care for their children.
“By lifting the heavy burden of unaffordable housing, we are helping moms reclaim stability and build a sustainable future.
“Each mother is welcomed to stay for a designated period to regain her footing, after which she’ll help extend the same opportunity to four more moms, offering not just shelter, but a powerful hand up.”
Habitat Bermuda plans to ensure that future projects provide other families safe and affordable housing.
The charity said: “Grace Place stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together with compassion and a shared vision.
“For the single mothers and children moving in, it’s more than a new apartment, it’s a fresh start, a stable foundation and a place to call home.”
The property’s location was not disclosed to protect residents’ privacy.
