Bermuda made an encouraging start to the Battle of the Isles netball tournament with 42-30 victory over co-hosts Sint Maarten.

The Longtails trailed by seven goals at half-time, but a series of tactical changes did the trick to get their tournament off to a flyer.

Jahkenya Trott, who replaced Inshanae Smith at goal shooter, made an instant impact in the third quarter, where Bermuda dominated with 18 goals scored.

The shooting combination of Trott and goal attack Zakiyah Durham silenced the opposition. Not to be outdone, Smith rose to the occasion in her new role by making many interceptions in defence to nullify the Sint Maarten attack.

Bermuda play again tonight at 9pm, against Sint Eustatius, the other cohost.

Goal keeper: Khianda Pearman-Watson

Wing defence: Demiqua Daniels
