Mishael Paynter has stepped down as president of St George’s Cricket Club.

The former cricketer told The Royal Gazette he has resigned for “personal reasons”, but declined to elaborate further.

Paynter tendered his resignation last Friday, with the development coming just 21 months after succeeding Neil Paynter at the club’s annual meeting in January 2024.

St George’s will hold a special general meeting in the near future to elect a new president.

In a statement addressed to the Gazette, the club also confirmed Paynter’s resignation and offered its gratitude for his long service in various capacities.

“St George’s Cricket Club can confirm that Mishael Paynter resigned from his position as president, in writing, October 24, 2025 citing personal reasons,” the statement read.

“The club extends our gratitude to Mishael for the 13 years he served on the management and executive committee in the various capacities of chairman of football, chairman of sport, vice-president and president.

“A date for a special general meeting will be announced in the coming days to address the vacancy.”

Kyle Denbrook, the vice-president, will serve as acting president in the interim.

In front of what is believed to be the largest attendance at a club AGM, Paynter garnered 92 votes to see off Tiffany Hayward (42) and Damon Walker (17), the incumbent vice-presndet and former cricket chairman.

Neil Paynter served as St George’s president for 22 years, making him the longest-serving president of the postwar era, second in tenure only to W.S. Cooper (1910-1934).

Mishael Paynter’s resignation also comes only weeks after being elected to the Bermuda Football Association’s executive committee, along with referee Tashun Simons.

The pair were elected from a pool of four candidates during the BFA’s annual congress held at Bermuda College last month.
