Drivers got “ample notice” of the raised pedestrian crossings added to Parsons Road in Pembroke this month.

The Ministry of Public Works and Environment responded to complaints circulating last week on social media that claimed that some motorists had been taken by surprise.

A spokesman said that “all standard road safety and public notification procedures were followed” before the crossings were installed.

He added: “Road Traffic Notice No 101 was issued in October and again in November, advising the public of the planned installation dates and the three locations involved.

“In addition, road warning signs were placed several weeks in advance, zigzag lines were painted one week before installation and large yellow-and-red warning signs were erected immediately following the completion of the asphalt work.”

He said: “The ministry continues to remind all road users to exercise caution, reduce speed and remain alert when approaching pedestrian crossings.”
