AllureAdorn grows into its own space

Theresa Simons has sold fashion jewellery online, at pop-ups and through a kiosk.

Next month, she will open AllureAdorn Boutique, her first bricks-and-mortar store, upstairs in the Washington Mall in Hamilton.

She launches an expanded product line on December 1, offering a range of plus-size clothing, in addition to the jewellery she is known for.

Ms Simons got the idea while running the AllureAdorn Fashion Jewellery & Accessories in a kiosk downstairs in the mall.

“A customer was saying how hard it was to find clothing in Bermuda for plus-size women,” Ms Simons said. “Being a plus-size myself, I was like, ‘Yes, I know exactly what you mean.’ It is very, very frustrating. Sometimes you can find a nice top, but no pants, or you need work clothes but can only find something dressy.”

She wanted to offer more options.

“I wanted to adorn local women,” she said. “I bought plus-sized clothing online and started selling it. I really couldn’t do that through the kiosk so I did it online at first.”

As the clothing aspect of her business grew more popular, a space opened upstairs. It was the right time to expand.

Two years ago, Ms Simons was working in the trust industry.

“I wanted to do something else,” she said.

One morning she awoke early and bought a bunch of fashion jewellery on Amazon.com.

Ms Simons had always had a passion for fashion accessories. She did not know where she would sell the goods or for what price point; she just knew she wanted to start her own business.

She left her job and AllureAdorn was born.

“I wanted to create more than just a shopping experience — I wanted to build a space where women could reconnect with their sense of style, celebrate their individuality and feel adorned in confidence,” she said. “Every necklace, earring or bracelet was chosen with that purpose in mind.”

She credits dedication, consistency and loyal customers for her steady growth since then.

“Over the past year, I have been humbled by how the community has embraced the brand,” Ms Simons said. “Their encouragement inspired me to take the next step — expanding from a kiosk to a full boutique that brings together both jewellery and fashion under one roof.”

Ms Simons said the expansion represented not only business growth, but also greater strength of purpose — creating a place where every woman can feel empowered and celebrated.

When she first told her regulars that she was closing the kiosk, some reacted with horror.

“People were saying, ‘What do you mean? Where you going?’,” she said.

Some people even went to the mall office to find out where she had gone.

That helped to allay her fears that people would not follow her upstairs.

“Someone said if you have loyal customers, they will follow you anywhere,” she said.
