CedarBridge Academy’s graduating class of 2026, led by John Virgil, emerged as the top charity to benefit from the hosting of the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation Masters World Championships.

As part of an initiative by the Bermuda Ball Hockey Association, local charities took over the food stall to raise funds for their causes.

The BBHA undertook to donate $1,000 to the charity with the highest daily haul, which CedarBridge did with $2,121 on the penultimate day of the tournament.

A total of $9,818 was raised for charities during the tournament.

Reacting to claiming the extra bonus, Virgil thanked those who came up with the idea.

“As the CedarBridge Academy graduating class of 2026, we are honoured and privileged to have had the opportunity to participate in this awesome fundraising opportunity,” Virgil said.

“We’d like to thank all of the organisers for this opportunity and hope that perhaps any future events can be something that will be a regular event.

“It’s a great opportunity for schools and people in the community and we are for ever grateful.”

Backing from sponsors was highlighted by the BBHA as the main reason for the success of the venture.

“The BBHA could not be prouder of these charities and the work they put in,” the association said.

“The funds raised will go towards youth programming, student initiatives and helping children across Bermuda reach their goals.

“This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our sponsors.

“A huge thank-you goes out to Pronto, Crow Lane Bakery, Tucker’s Point Golf Club, Waterfront Wellness, Hamilton Princess, BDA Spirits, Butterfield Bermuda Championship and Alpasion Wine for stepping up to make this vision a reality.

“The success of this year’s charity food stall proves that when sport and community come together, great things happen.

“The BBHA looks forward to continuing this initiative in future tournaments, and continuing to support the organisations that support Bermuda.”
