Paget crash leaves rider in ‘a critical condition’

A rider was understood to be in critical condition after he was “ejected” from a motorbike in a crash with a car yesterday, police said.

The collision happened at about 9.30am on South Road in Paget, near Bermuda College.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: “Reportedly, the car was travelling in the eastbound lane of South Road when the driver, understood to be a 30-year-old Sandys Parish woman, attempted to overtake a motorcyclist in front of her, near College Road.

“That motorcyclist was not involved in this incident.

“However, seemingly at the same time, a second motorcyclist, understood to be a 44-year-old Warwick man, attempted to overtake the car and the two vehicles made contact.

“Apparently, on impact the 44-year-old was ejected from the motorcycle he was riding, landing on the sidewalk of the opposite lane.”

The rider was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of leg and other injuries.

“At last check, he was said to be in a critical condition,” the police spokesman said.

Traffic was diverted for about three hours while the crash scene was processed.

Any witnesses were encouraged to call Inspector Caleb Jn Pierre on 717-2368 or to e-mail cjnpierre@bps.bm, as soon as possible.
