Belco is to hold a simulated exercise tomorrow that will include a “live fire” at its Serpentine Road facility.

The company said the exercise may be visible to passers-by and that there will be some smoke and odour during the training.

The live fire — which will be limited to wooden pallets — will take place in the early afternoon after theory and hose management exercises.

The exercise will be conducted under the supervision of Fire Life Safety Services.

Mark Pacheco, Belco’s director of occupational support services, said: “The health and safety of our staff and the public is of paramount importance to our operations at Belco.

“This exercise is part of our employee training and essential to ensure our fire safety staff and operational teams are prepared to prevent and, if necessary, manage or extinguish a fire should one occur on site.

“The exercise should have minimal impact on the public.”
