Children and families across the island will benefit from an early-morning campaign of giving that drew an outpouring of support.

The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club launched its Christmas Wish Breakfast Gift Drive yesterday where about 450 items were donated by attendees.

Presents included gift cards totalling more than $1,000, with close to 300 people attending.

The drive remains open and the hotel will accept new unwrapped gifts such as toys, clothing, shoes, gift cards and other thoughtful presents for children aged two to 18.

This year, the hotel partnered with the Gina Spence Programme, Family Centre and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda for the goodwill gesture.

Representatives from each charitable organisation were on hand to take donations.

A hotel spokeswoman said “We chose the three charities for our Christmas Wish gift drive as they have a history of collaborating — and they are each experienced in operating their individual gift and food drives year-round to aid in the much needed services in our community.”

Tim Morrison, general manager of the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, added: “The holiday season is a time for giving, and we are honoured to partner with these organisations who support Bermuda’s families throughout the year.”

The hotel thanked charities and volunteers who helped with gift stacking.

Singer Hana Bushara added festive flair to the proceedings.

Students of Whitney Institute Middle School and Tender Care Nursery School, led by music teacher Shani Smith, also performed, along with a group from United Dance Productions led by co-ordinator Suzette Harvey.

Event host DJ Nadanja Bailey got support from Santa with an elf assistant, while a team from Reflections Photo Booth was on hand to offer photo opportunities.
