English Market heading for Front Street
Grocery store the English Market is on the move next year after outgrowing its space in Washington Mall in Hamilton.
Owner Fabio Iannone said the new grocery store at 55 Front Street would be twice the size of the current one, which opened in October 2021.
Mr Iannone expects to launch the new space in February.
“We will also be introducing a new English brand,” he said. “I cannot say yet which one. We are doing this to be more competitive. We want to bring in more products and get more business.”
Mr Iannone hopes the new space will add to their client base.
“Our old customers are still going to follow us for sure,” he said.
It will be at least the second major change since he opened the outlet. He added a smaller location on Rose Hill in St George in January.
The entrepreneur admitted that when he first opened the English Market, he did not envision it would grow to be quite so big.
“It has taken a lot of hard work and sacrifice,” he said.
The grocer said timing had been a challenge for the latest project.
“There have been all sorts of different challenges with the construction and getting a permit,” he said. “They have been the usual challenges when opening up a new business.”
The extra square footage at 55 Front Street will allow him to add a bigger buffet.
“We are giving customers more options but keeping the same prices,” he said. “We are not going to charge people more.”
Mr Iannone said the biggest lesson since going into the grocery business was paying close attention to what people want.
“You have to sell what they want, not what you want,” he said. “We are very excited and happy about the move. We are also thankful to our clients. It could not have happened without them.”
