Skuld appoints Daria Avdeeva to senior role
Sanctions have become the most influential policy tools impacting the daily operations of global marine insurer Skuld, the Bermuda-associated firm has said.
Skuld revealed this issue when announcing the appointment of Daria Avdeeva to senior vice-president, legal and industry liaison.
Ms Avdeeva, who has served as Skuld’s group liaison officer since 2021 — is expected to play a critical role in company outreach, advocating for the interests and needs of the insurance and maritime communities.
“In today’s fast-changing geopolitical landscape, the insurance and maritime industries have attracted considerable attention from regulators, international organisations and intergovernmental authorities,” Skuld said.
“While this recognition underscores the industry’s importance, it has also resulted in an increasing volume of regulatory requirements. Given the inherently international nature of our business, we face multiple and often conflicting regulatory demands across various jurisdictions.”
Skuld said a notable consequence of this is a fragmented approach to the global maritime regulatory framework, including liability regimes, leading parts of the world fleet to deviate from internationally recognised standards.
“In this environment, a strong collective voice for the industry is more critical than ever,” the firm said. “Skuld actively participates in the IGP & I, engaging with governments and intergovernmental authorities to promote the interests of shipowners.”
This includes guiding members through the complex sanctions landscape and supporting the International Maritime Organisation and governments in implementing fair and transparent frameworks for international liability and compensation.
