Devonshire Cougars 4 Young Men's Social Club 2

Devonshire Cougars fought back from a goal down to beat Young Men’s Social Club and proceed to the semi-finals of the Friendship Trophy at Devonshire Rec on Friday night.

Goals from Matthew Turner in the 56th minute, substitute Samario Valasse-Paul in the 67th, Kydan Browne in the 69th and a 78th penalty by Mosiais Mills sent Cougars through to the next round.

Social Club had led for much of the match through a long-range strike by Ayden Gardner in the 14th minute. His replacement Robert Edwards scored the team’s second goal in the 75th.

Cougars started on the attack with Mills forcing Reid Trott to concede a corner in the fourth minute.

As action swung to the other end of the field, Clay Darrell held off a challenge from Jecoa Thomas, fired at goal and Jaquan Darrell sprang into the air to punch the ball back into play.

Social Club opened the scoring when Gardner shot from range and the ball went in at the near post.

Trott was called into action on a number of occasions to preserve the Social Club lead going into the break.

First, he came off his line to deny Charmari Burns. He turned Christian Albouy's attempt behind for a corner and Burns went close again.

Mills swung in a corner for Turner to head in the equaliser eleven minutes into the second half.

Valasse-Paul weighed in with the second. He took a corner and when the ball was played back to him, struck a beauty into the roof of the net.

Fellow substitute Domico Coddington provided an assist for Browne to tap in from close range to score in consecutive matches for Cougars.

Social Club kept themselves within touching distance when Edwards got the ball into the back of the net with a quarter of an hour left.

But Cougars sealed victory when Coddington was fouled by Ryan Parris inside the box and Mills sent the keeper the wrong way from 12 yards.

Meanwhile, in the First Division Shield, Somerset Trojans progressed to the semi-finals after beating St David's 4-0

Enrique Mendes opened the scoring for Trojans in the 25th, Khe'ary Swan beat his own keeper on the half-hour mark, Leo Burgess added a third in the 76th, before Isaiah Francis completed the rout with four minutes left.
