Ewart Brown portrait to be unveiled this week
The official unveiling of a portrait of former premier and former Progressive Labour Party leader Ewart Brown is to take place this week, the party announced.
The event is scheduled for Thursday night from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the PLP’s headquarters in the Reginald A. Burrows Building at 16 Court Street.
The party said that the unveiling will recognise Dr Brown’s leadership as well as his contributions to national development, social progress and the advancement of the PLP.
It added: “The portrait will take its place among those of other distinguished leaders who have shaped the PLP and Bermuda’s modern political landscape.”
Dawn Simmons, the party chairwoman, said: “As the leader of the PLP, Dr Brown provided admirable leadership and created opportunities for many Bermudians.
“I learnt much from him serving in various capacities, especially as campaign chairman in 2007 and later being the executive officer of the PLP.”
Dr Brown extended an invitation to party members and the wider community to attend the event.
He said: “This unveiling is not about one individual but about the collective journey of a party and a people committed to progress, justice and opportunity.
“I warmly invite PLP members and the public to join us as we reflect on our shared history, and renew our commitment to the work that still lies ahead.”
Members of the public, party members and supporters were encouraged to attend the commemorative occasion.
