The national museum has announced a five-part professional development programme for teachers.

The NMB Teachers’ Circle, a collaboration between the National Museum of Bermuda and the Department of Education, will assist educators by letting them analyse museum resources and build connections.

The objective, according to Lisa Howie, the director of learning and engagement at the NMB, was to help teachers instruct with historical context in mind and focus on stimulating curiosity.

Ms Howie said: “Learning history is fundamental to understanding our past, present and future.

“NMB is committed to empowering educators through workshops rooted in inquiry-based learning and museum education practices.”

Sessions for the NMB Teachers’ Circle will take place once a month from January to May at the museum in Dockyard.

Participants will look critically at primary and secondary sources, as well as art, objects and exhibits.

Teachers will also get access to the museum’s archival materials, coauthor teaching resources to use in classrooms, collaborate with other teachers and educators, and build working relationships with the museum and its staff.

Sessions will be held on January 23, February 27, March 27, April 17 and May 29.

The registration deadline for the workshop is Friday. Those who are interested are encouraged to register as soon as possible as the programme has set a maximum of 15 participants.
