Champions North Village will begin their FA Cup title defence against Dandy Town at Bernard Park tonight (8pm).

Village have their work cut out after losing three of the previous four meetings between the Premier Division rivals this season, including the Charity Cup and Friendship Trophy final.

There is also an incentive for Towns as they remain the only team capable of achieving the coveted Triple Crown, which consists of the Premier Division, Friendship Trophy and FA Cup this season.

Rams coach Calvin “Patches” Dill stressed his team must rise to the challenge if they are to keep hopes of defending their title alive.

“We have to put in a good game performance if we want to retain what we have,” he told The Royal Gazette.

Town central defender Danté Leverock said he and his fellow team-mates are up for what they anticipate will be a gruelling clash.

“We’re eager to play what we know will be a tough match,” he said.

“The team is focused on the game plan and on giving ourselves the best possible chance to progress to the next round.”

Tonight’s other FA Cup first round fixture features Devonshire Cougars take on Corona League side Island Bulls in a David versus Goliath clash at Devonshire Rec (8pm).

Cougars are the overwhelming favourites heading into the cup tie but will not be taking their opponents for granted as they seek to progress in the prestigious competition.
