Local cricketer Katherine Bean-Rosario has become a champion in the West Indies after Leeward Islands won the Women’s T20 Blaze tournament.

Bean-Rosario’s team defeated Barbados by six runs through the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in the rain-interrupted final at Arnos Vale Playing Field, Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines, last Friday. The 19-year-old all-rounder featured in four of her team’s six matches, one of those being the 31-run victory over Barbados.

The Bermuda Cricket Board has congratulated Bean-Rosario on her win.

“The Bermuda Cricket Board proudly extends its warmest congratulations to Katherine Bean-Rosario and the entire Leeward Islands Women’s team on their historic victory in the CWI 20 Blaze tournament,” the BCB said.

“Katherine’s achievements continue to inspire the next generation of Bermudian cricketers and highlight Bermuda’s growing presence on the regional cricket stage.

“Katherine and her Leeward Islands team-mates made history by capturing their first CWI T20 Blaze championship. Throughout the competition, the Leeward Islands Women displayed exceptional skill, determination and teamwork.

“This remarkable accomplishment marks a milestone moment for the Leeward Islands programme and reflects the continued growth of women’s cricket across the region.”

Bean-Rosario is staying on with Percy Daniel’s side for the CG United Women's Super50 Cup, which started on Tuesday with Leewards facing Barbados in their opening match.

According to CWI, each side will play three games, after which the top-ranked team will be declared the winner.

“Katherine now continues her international development as the Leeward Islands shift their focus to the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup,” the BCB added.

“The BCB also wishes Katherine continued success as she competes in the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup, where she continues to elevate her game and represent Bermuda with distinction.”
