Big guns avoid each other in FA Cup quarter-finals

Champions North Village have been drawn against Paget Lions in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Village, who are still in contention to repeat the double they achieved last season, were drawn at home to Antwan Russell’s side when the draw was made at Clyde Best Centre of Excellence on Tuesday night.

The other quarter-finals feature Devonshire Colts playing X-Roads, Boulevard taking on PHC and St George’s Colts, the 2024 champions, needing to clear last year’s finalists Devonshire Cougars if they entertain hopes of winning the knockout competition. The ties are scheduled to take place on February 13, 14 and 15.

Reacting to the draw, Colts coach Ray Jones felt the draw could be viewed as advantageous to his side when taking into account results between the two sides this season.

“On the form book, you might say the draw is favourable for us,” Jones told The Royal Gazette.

“Two times we’ve played them and we beat them, but they’re a good outfit, so those two results won’t mean anything when it comes to the game itself.

“At this stage you can’t avoid the tough matches because you only have Premier Division teams left. If you want to win it, you have to beat the champion to become the champion.”

Colts are also in contention to win the league but Jones is not allowing himself to look too far ahead.

“It’s too early to be talking about the double,” Jones said.

“We haven’t won the FA Cup since 2007, so we’re not talking like that. It’s just one game at a time for us.”
