An entrepreneur who threw caution to the wind and launched an enduring Bermuda brand as the island bathed in the glow of the America’s Cup is planning the next step for her business.

Genelle John opened a store at 7 Water Street in St George in October 2015 after earlier launching her line of products at a vendor event held during the first stage of the America’s Cup.

Salt Spray Soap, the Bermudian-owned skincare line known for its handmade soaps, body butters, oils, scrubs and bath salts, has been celebrating a decade in business.

To mark the milestone, Salt Spray Soap is expanding its offerings to include interactive skincare workshops, allowing participants to create their own body oils and bath salts. The workshops are designed for private groups, celebrations and corporate experiences, with sessions tailored to the goals and preferences of each group.

She had already been formulating natural skincare for herself and her family for several years before her launch, a skill she began developing while studying abroad.

A pivotal moment came when she created a custom blend to soothe her stepson’s skin during his cancer treatment.

A spokeswoman for the company said over the past ten years, the awareness of Salt Spray Soap as a local brand has grown.

Operating seven days a week, Ms John’s business has maintained a strong commitment to consistent product availability and in-house production.

Job creation has remained central to the company’s ethos, with the business now entering a new phase of sustainable growth.

Ms John said: “Salt Spray Soap started as something very personal, making skincare for myself and my family and later during a moment when care really mattered.

“Ten years on, I am incredibly proud that it has grown into a trusted Bermudian brand that still operates with the same intention it began with. I am deeply grateful to the customers who have supported the business over the past decade and made this milestone possible.”

She said Salt Spray Soap will continue to produce all products locally in Bermuda while focusing on team expansion, experiential offerings and long-term brand sustainability.
