Adam Hall to play for Canada in World Baseball Classic

Adam Hall is hoping to catch the eye of scouts at World Baseball Classic

Adam Hall has been selected to play for Canada in the World Baseball Classic.

The 26-year-old, whose mother is Bermudian, grew up on the island before moving to Ontario as a teenager to pursue his passion for the sport.

Hall was the top Canadian prospect in the 2017 Major League baseball draft and was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round at 60th overall, spending six years in the organisation’s minor league system.

After a brief spell with the Milwaukee Brewers last year, Hall entered free agency in November after suffering with a knee injury and is hoping to use his call-up for the World Baseball Classic as a chance to earn a minor-league contract.

“Greg Hamilton [director of national teams with Baseball Canada] happened to give me a call one night and said, ‘Hey, if you can get healthy, we have a spot for you on the bench,” Hall told CTV News in Canada.

I was really excited to hear the news and It’s good to get back with Canada because it’s been a little while. I know there’s been a couple of events that I have had the opportunity to play in but it just hasn’t worked out in terms of the professional season.”

Hall, who features in the Canada squad alongside Major League players Tyler O’Neill, Josh Naylor, Otto Lopez, Bo Naylor, and Denzel Clarke, will suit up from late February to play exhibition games in Florida and Puerto Rico.

Canada’s first group game in the World Baseball Classic comes against Colombia on March 7 at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Puerto Rico. That will be followed by matches against Panama, Puerto Rico and Cuba, with the top two teams in the four groups making it through to the quarter-finals.
