Bermuda bling rep inspires Seven Collection
Malachi Eversley chose to launch a popup tent in Dockyard during the third hottest year on record.
In 2025, temperatures in Bermuda neared 90F at the height of the tourism season, but it was the wind that drove the retailer mad.
It continuously blew around hats, T-shirts and other items from his Bermuda-themed Seven Collection
“I was located across from the Bermuda Craft Market,” he said. “Some days were so windy and rainy. I would hang things on the side of my tent and have to chase them down over and over.”
He learnt to tie down the tent itself, the hard way.
“Financially, my first season in Dockyard was not a disaster, but I did not do as well as I thought I would,” he admitted. “I was feeling the situation out.”
He plans to go back for a second round when the weather warms up again this year, this time prepared for battle.
“I went in last year with merchandise I had already had,” he said. “This year I will have newly designed products.”
His new line of T-shirts carry the design of a $100 Bermuda bill on the front, inspired by a penchant he observed in cruise ship passengers. If they bought something he could not get them to accept Bermuda money as change.
“I tried to explain that the Bermuda dollar was tied to the US dollar,” he said. “They still did not want it. I had to keep a float of American money. They wouldn’t even take it as change, if they were just going a few steps to Snorkel Park where they would spend it.”
Instead of fighting it, he saw opportunity.
His version of the $100 bill has some edits, such as a fierce pitbull in the left-hand corner.
“It is there because Bermudians love dogs,” Mr Eversley said. “I grew up with a pitbull.”
He used the animal to symbolise that Bermuda’s money is strong.
“When you see the pitbull, you know this money is 'ruff’,” he said.
The retailer has also printed the word “rich” on the T-shirt to emphasise Bermuda’s wealth.
“I put that because a lot of people come here from other places and get rich,” he said. “If you live in Jamaica they think you have won the lottery when you move to Bermuda. I want to release other designs with Bermuda money, but they will always be $100 bills.”
He also has a new Bermuda sweatshirt with a longtail on the back.
His stand is not open yet in Dockyard, but the new designs are available in Hamilton at Street Vybez, 43 Court Street, Love Tiny Bermuda, 57 Front Street and Choices Menswear, 27 Queen Street.
The new T-shirt and sweatshirt have been hanging in the window of Love Tiny Bermuda for a few days and are already drawing attention.
“I think they are going to do well,” he said.
