Wolves coach Tori Davis has hailed his team’s upset over First Division leaders Robin Hood in a five-goal thriller at Bernard Park last Friday night.

The home side prevailed 3-2 after goals from Jarred Douglas, Khiari Sharrieff Hayward and Antonio Wade. Hood replied through strikes from the league’s top marksman Keishen Bean and Samuel Carolo.

Davis was delighted with the result and his team’s brilliant display.

“I felt that was a very good and solid performance by the team,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“They played as a team and I congratulated them for what was planned out for us to do to win the game. They executed 80 per cent of what we planned out to do.

“We deserved that win because the last time we played we were up 3-0 and we lost 4-3, so it’s a very big improvement.

“I don’t take nothing from Robin Hood. They played a very technical game and didn’t stop coming at us.

“I have praise for the youngsters on Robin Hood’s team as well because they are good technically. They played very good and are going to be a threat and dominant in the future.”

Davis was particularly pleased by his team’s defending and finishing in the attacking third.

“Defensively we were very sound. I was very pleased with the back line as they did very well communicating and keeping the back line solid and tight.

“I also want to congratulate my goalscorers. They were hard-fought goals because the game was very intense coming into the second half. We did well absorbing a little bit of pressure and building off with the counter attack now and then.”

Davis feels his team is finally beginning to peak as the season reaches an exciting conclusion.

“The team is starting to really gel now,” he said.

“The guys are starting to feel very confident and believe in themselves. I have found the right pieces to the puzzle to build a team, and it’s looking very, very good in my eyes.

“I have seen the improvement ever since the Somerset game at the beginning of the second half of the season, so I congratulate my team for the performance. We are looking to get better as the season progresses and hope to finish on a high note.”

Hood top the table by two points over fellow title contenders Somerset Trojans.

The Wolves and Hood clash was the only First Division match played at the weekend as the remaining fixtures were postponed owing to adverse weather conditions
