Bermuda under-17 men travel to Honduras in high spirits
Bermuda head off to Honduras for the Concacaf Under-17 Men’s World Cup Qualifiers full of confidence after defeating Central Florida 5-0 in a friendly match on Monday night.
Jeon Wolfe found the target twice, while Kaiyuri Albuoy, Tyler Steede and Na’im Zuill netted the other goals in the big win at City of Apopka Northwest Recreation Complex
Coach Aaron Denkins was pleased to put his tactics to the test before facing Guyana, Suriname and Honduras over a six-day period in group H.
“For the team it was a good opportunity to practice our tactical plan in real time and to practice against a motivated opponent,” Denkins told The Royal Gazette.
“It is important to have matches under our belt leading into our first match against Guyana.
“It has been really cold in Florida this week but the players have responded professionally, bonded as a group and taken in all of the information.
“We had one last session on Tuesday afternoon then we are off to Honduras on Wednesday morning.”
The players, who have been in Florida since last Friday for a training camp, arrive in Honduras on Wednesday.
Bermuda clash with Guyana on Friday, face Suriname two days later, before taking on the host nation next Wednesday. They have to finish on top of their group to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year.
