The Bermuda Police Service has warned parents to ensure their children act responsibly after a rise in incidents involving electric scrambler-type bikes.

A police spokesman said while the vehicles are not required to be licensed or insured, they are still subject to Bermuda’s road traffic laws.

He said: “This includes offences such as careless riding, dangerous riding and failing to obey traffic signals or stop signs.

“These rules are in place to protect not only the riders themselves, but all road users including pedestrians.

“There is increasing concern regarding bikes being ridden on private property and in landscaped areas causing damage. Such actions may result in offences relating to trespassing and wilful damage.”

The spokesman added that the BPS was committed to keeping Bermuda’s roads safe and appealed for the support of parents and guardians.

“By working together and promoting lawful, considerate riding, we can help ensure that everyone remains safe,” he said.
