Nahki Wells scores for Luton but Nathan Trott concedes five
Nahki Wells got back on the scoring trail for Luton on Saturday while goalkeeper Nathan Trott suffered his worst day since signing for Cardiff City.
Wells scored just his third league goal of the season for Luton in their 1-1 draw against Burton Albion in League One, producing a smart turn and finish to put his side ahead in the thirteenth minute.
The forward was substituted with his side still leading in the 69th minute but struggling Burton, who are battling relegation, stunned the home support at Kenilworth Road by scoring in the second minute of added time at the end of the game through striker Fabio Tavares.
The draw adds to the pressure on former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere, Luton’s head coach, with the team now tenth in League One and six points outside the play-off places. Wilshere has won just 11 of his 26 games since being appointed Luton coach in October.
Trott played the entire match and conceded five goals as League One leaders Cardiff were beaten 5-2 away to Plymouth Argyle.
The game started brilliantly for Trott, who made a superb one-on-one save from Caleb Watts inside the first five minutes, but he was beaten three times in the first half through strikes by Lorent Talaj and a brace from Bim Pepple.
However, Cardiff were still in the game at half time, down just 3-2 after Omari Kellyman scored twice.
But the second half did not go Cardiff’s way with Talaj scoring again from the penalty spot and Mathias Ross heading in Argyle’s fifth late on.
Despite the defeat Cardiff remain top of the league but their lead has been cut to just one point by Lincoln City, who beat Mansfield Town 2-0. Cardiff’s promotion hopes still look good as they are 11 points clear of third-placed Bolton Wanderers.
