A Powerhaus Pilates and Treehouse workshop on Sunday March 8 is aimed at introducing Pilates to men, in a hands-on 90-minute session at the Treehouse Yoga premises on Trott Road in Hamilton.

The session begins at 11am, moving through three stages: a short introduction to Pilates and how it works with the body, a full mat class using equipment and a visit to Powerhaus to see the reformers up close.

The event will serve as a test of male interest in the discipline in advance of formal classes.

Lead instructor Vehia Walker said the session will target the areas men tend to struggle with most — hips, lower back, shoulders and core. She said it is open to all fitness levels, including those who have no training history.

“Men are often surprised by how much Pilates challenges them,” she says. “This workshop is about meeting them where they are and showing them what their bodies are actually capable of.”

Treehouse cofounder Tiffany Paynter added: “Personally, I was excited when Vehia proposed this collaboration because I love watching those men try Pilates videos and think some men will love the challenge.

“There are so many stereotypes and limiting beliefs that keep men from exploring movement practices like Pilates or Yoga — and that's exactly what we're here to break down.”

The course material notes: “This workshop-style session is designed specifically for men who want to build functional strength, improve mobility, and support long-term joint health.

“We’ll focus on areas where men often experience tightness or imbalance — hips, lower back, shoulders and core — while introducing the foundational principles of classical Pilates.

Participants will learn how Pilates enhances overall performance, prevents injury, and creates balanced, powerful movement patterns. The class is accessible for all levels, whether someone is brand new to Pilates or already active in other forms of fitness.
