Ruthless X-Roads send Blazers crashing into the First Division
Boulevard 0 X-Roads Warriors 6
Boulevard became the first team to be relegated from the Premier Division after losing heavily to X-Roads Warriors at Police Field on Saturday.
Blazers hopes of survival in their first season back in the top flight have been dashed as they cannot catch eighth-placed Paget with two games remaining in their league campaign.
X-Roads dominated proceedings with talisman Danavon Thompson leading the charge with a hat-trick and James Morrison, Kahmari Brangman and Edivaldo Abranches also getting on the scoresheet.
Morrison broke the deadlock in the 31st minute and Brangman added another five minutes later to place the away side in full control.
Thompson then scored twice in quick succession in the 41st and 42nd minutes to send X-Roads into the break with a commanding 4-0 advantage.
Abranches added a fifth in the 78th minute before Thompson struck again two minutes from the end of regulation time to complete his hat-trick and condemn Blazers to an immediate return to the First Division.
Young Men’s Social Club are the other team in the relegation zone, five points adrift of eighth-place Paget with two games remaining in their league campaign.
Lions also have a game in hand after their league clash with title contenders Devonshire Colts at Southampton Oval last November cancelled after an attempt was made to attack one of their players during the warm-up.
The opening First Division clash between Vasco da Gama and Somerset Eagles at Police Field on Saturday was not played as the home team forfeited the points.
It was the second straight time Vasco have forfeited the points, having done so the previous weekend to clinch Somerset Trojans’ promotion to the Premier Division after spending two seasons in the second tier.
Second-place Robin Hood clinched the first promotion spot on offer the previous weekend courtesy of a 2-1 win over Shield champions Eagles.
Trojans top the standings on goal difference over Hood and have a game in hand over their fellow title hopefuls.
The two teams will square off in the final round of the season in a potential championship decider at PHC Field on March 22.
