Boxer Adrian Roach is confident he can extend his flawless record when he takes on American Devin Carter in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday night.

In his second overseas fight, Roach (2-0), faces Carter (1-0) in a four-round welterweight contest as part of The Homecoming of Joseph Jackson Jr, presented by Walter T Johnson III Promotions, at the Dudley High School Gymnasium.

“I have 100 per cent confidence that it will be 3-0 and in spectacular fashion,” Roach told The Royal Gazette.

“I don’t see it going any other way. I’ve envisioned it and I’ve prayed about it because we’ve worked extremely hard for this opportunity.

“So we’re not going to let it go to waste. We’ll fight tooth and nail to make sure that the 3-0 objective is achieved.

“My preparations have been great. We’ve been getting good elevation training in the mountains, just getting accustomed and acclimatised.

“But everything’s been really sharp and I’ve been really pleased with my performances, so I’m looking forward to Saturday night.

Roach, whose wins have come against Brent Coxworthy, from Canada, and Mexican Victor Emanuel Lopez, is counting on his experience during his amateur days to carry him through. Carter defeated Lee Ricks-Wynne by a majority decision a year ago, before his other two scheduled fights were cancelled.

“He’s an aggressive fighter and he comes forward,” the Bermudian said.

“But that’s nothing that we haven’t seen before. I have an extensive amateur career, so any style that he brings, whether he wants to be aggressive, whether he wants to fight on the back foot, whether he wants to get inside and mix it up, we would have an answer for everything.”

Roach is determined to grab this opportunity with both hands.

“It’s important because obviously we’re both putting our undefeated records on the line early on,” he said.

“They also have some belt organisation that will be present for another fight at the fight. So it’s an opportunity to get some eyes on you and get some new supporters.

“Being that it’s in North Carolina, that’s one flight over into Bermuda. So if people really like what they see, we could potentially start building our relationships to where people want to come and see me fight at home.

“Joseph Jackson is going to be fighting for an IBA belt. He’s the main fight and he’s a home town fighter too, so it should be a pretty big reception.

“It’s his first fight in a little bit and a lot of people are coming out to support him. Hopefully, we could kind of piggyback off of some of his fans and pick up some of ours.”

Roach has been working with fellow Bermudian, Saundre “Dash” Simmons, who will be part of his corner for the fight.

“Dash and Jesse Becerra have been helping me prepare for this fight,” the fighter said.

“I also have Yannick Dill from Controversy Gym coming out from Bermuda and he’s going to be in my corner as well.

“A big shout out to all my sponsors that came through really big in this fight. We have the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Burrows Plumbing, Ocean Tree Ltd, Controversy Boxing Gym, Fresh & Hungry Boxing Gym and Sugar Rush Cakes.

“These are all sponsors that I’m very appreciative of and they helped push my career. They make sure that I have the opportunities to keep representing Bermuda and continue elevating the sport.

“It means a lot to me to represent my country on four stages. It’s something that I did a lot as an amateur.

“I was always fighting between the US, Canada and South America. So it was nice to carry that flag on my back and I’m just doing the same thing in the pros now and taking dangerous fights while being at it.”
