Bermuda women’s football team forward Jahni Simmons is headed to the English Colleges Football Association Cup final next month with Future Pro Academy in Britain.

Future Pro will now face South Gloucestershire and Stroud College on April 30, at Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium, to decide the title.

Simmons, who also plays for Coventry Sphinx in the West Midlands Regional Premier Division, featured for 70 minutes in the 2-1 semi-final victory over Brighton, Hove & Sussex College away in Newhaven on Wednesday.

“I’m excited to reach the final a second year running,” Simmons told The Royal Gazette.

“We’ve worked hard all season. It was a great feeling being victorious over the same team from last year’s semi-finals.

“In our league, we beat and drew with our opponents in the final this season, so we will be looking to come out on top.

“It will be a tough match so we know what is expected. I feel confident in my team and think we have every chance to win it.”

According to Demir Vavan, the Future Pro founder, the 20-year-old tested the opposition goalkeeper on a number of occasions and had a hand in the team’s opening goal.

“Jahni Simmons played 70 minutes and had an excellent game playing in a Future Pro dynamic front three,” Vavan said.

“She had several attempts on target and was influential in the counter attack leading to the first goal scored by Madison Norton.”

Last year, Future Pro lost the final 5-2 to Barking Abbey School Girls Football Academy. Vavan attributed that defeat to having to split the teams on that day for another assignment, something they do not have to do on this occasion.

“Our other squad was playing Hellas Verona Under-21 at the same time, so we will have a full strength team this time,” he added.
