Bermudians and residents are invited to audition for a musical adaptation of Romeo & Juliet this month.

Bermudian-based Devil’s Isle Shakespeare Company is holding auditions for the production at Christ Church hall in Warwick from 10am to 2pm on April 11.

All local actors, singers and musicians can audition for the show, which will be performed in August and September, no professional experience is required and all roles will be paid.

Bermudian Emily Ross starred as Ariel in Devil’s Isle’s first production, a musical version of The Tempest, last year, and organisation founder Séamus Miller said the group plans to hire more Bermudians and seek additional support this year.

Those interested in auditioning must prepare 45 to 90 seconds of a Shakespeare monologue and singers should sing about 30 seconds of a song they like — musicians should inform the team of their talents, as an accompanist will not be provided.

Romeo & Juliet will mostly be performed at a new outdoor amphitheatre at Riddell’s Bay. All Devil’s Isle productions are free of charge for everyone under the age of 18.

Auditions may be filmed for reference and those interested in trying out must be at least 18 years old and should book a ten minute slot via devils-isle.org/auditions.
