Man denies sexual assault, bodily harm charges
A 50-year-old man has denied allegations that he incapacitated and sexually assaulted a woman this year.
The man, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to charges of serious sexual assault, two counts of assault against the same victim and “disabling” the woman to commit the sexual assault.
All of the four offences were said to have occurred between February 23 and March 3.
Neither the accused nor the complainant can be identified for legal reasons.
The defendant was remanded into custody until June, when the matter is expected to return to the court for mention.
The matter was one of several heard during a busy arraignments session in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
In an unrelated case Hanifah Smith, 42, from Warwick, denied possessing 25.45g of cannabis and 3.85g of cannabis resin with intent to supply in an incident on February 26, 2024.
She also denied allegations that she possessed a substance containing THC and drug equipment, specifically a digital scale and a wooden grinder, on the same day.
Ms Smith further denied charges of possessing criminal property in the form of Bermuda cash, US cash and Canadian gold coins, and attempting to conceal criminal proceeds.
The matter is expected to return to the Supreme Court in June.
