Cloutier: industry and regulators aligned over big issues
Re/insurance veteran Mark Cloutier closed the inaugural Abir Risk Forum by remarking he has never witnessed such times during his decades of industry experience.
Reflecting on the day of insights from industry professionals from around the world, the Abir chairman and the group chief executive officer and chairman of Aspen said no one who attended could doubt that Bermuda played a significant role in the global economy.
“From my perspective, it was really interesting to hear the alignment between the industry participants and the regulators, the people that oversee our industry,” Mr Cloutier said.
“This is a moment in time that I haven't experienced in terms of the alignment over the issues that we're confronting, and where we have to go, and I think that that bodes well for our ability to solve some of these issues — as complex as they are.”
He hoped the younger people in the room had been inspired.
“Man, if there was ever an industry that could pique my interest as a place to be and have an impact on the world, quite frankly, this would be it.
“I think our panellists did a great job of illustrating a lot of issues. I'm not sure we heard a lot of answers, but that tells you the complexity of what we’re dealing with.”
