Blake Montgomery to play in Frozen Four final
Bermudian Blake Montgomery will compete in one of the biggest ice hockey finals in North America on Saturday.
Montgomery plays for the University of Wisconsin, who beat second seeds North Dakota 2-1 in the Frozen Four semi-final on Thursday night.
The Badgers will now take on Denver in the final, with the match starting at 6.30pm Bermuda time and it can be viewed live on ESPN.
Montgomery, a freshman, has played 37 times for Wisconsin this season and featured in the semi-final on Thursday.
Wisconsin produced a great start, outshooting the Fighting Hawks 18-4 in the first 20 minutes. They took control of the gams, scoring two goals in 27 seconds during the first period to take a 2-0 lead through senior forward Simon Tassy and Ryan Botterill.
North Dakota withdrew their goaltender with 3min 34sec of the game remaining and the Badgers held strong until 52 seconds remaining when Ellis Rickwood halved the deficit.
Montgomery was selected 117th by the Ottawa Senators at the NHL Draft in 2024 and played in the United States Hockey League for Lincoln Stars and the Ontario Hockey League for London Knights in 2024-25.
He comes from a sporting family, with his mother Kimberley playing NCAA Division I basketball at Berkeley and his father, Matthew playing Division III hockey at St Mary’s College. Montgomery’s brother, Bryce, is also a talented player.
