Nakhi Wells scores twice at Wembley to lead Luton to glory
Nahki Wells again showed he can shine on football’s biggest stage by scoring twice at Wembley to steer Luton Town to glory in the EFL Trophy final.
Starting the game up front for Luton Town, Wells put his side ahead in the 39th minute with a stunning two-touch finish, controlling a difficult ball perfectly into his own path to give Luton the lead for the first time in the game after they had fallen behind early to Stockport County before equalising in the 22nd minute.
The forward’s second goal came in added time at the end of the game when he took control of a cross inside the box, fought his way past a defender and coolly slotted low into the net.
The 35-year-old is no stranger to Wembley, with this being his sixth appearance at the iconic stadium, and after being named man of the match, he told The Royal Gazette exclusively how he was feeling.
“I’m over the moon and it’s surreal to be man of the match, score a double and win a cup,” he said.
