Knee injury continues to sideline Reese Jones
Bermuda defender Reese Jones Jr is back home as he continues with his recovery from a knee injury.
Jones, who plays for English non-League club Binfield, has been out of action since last October when he limped off in the first half during a World Cup qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago at Flora Duffy Stadium.
“I haven’t played since October after that game against Trinidad,” Jones told The Royal Gazette.
“I didn't have surgery and I’m back home doing physiotherapy. The target is to be back playing by August or September.”
“It’s been a little bit frustrating, but being around my club watching games keeps me involved and being disciplined in the gym and in my studies.”
Since his return to Bermuda last month, Jones has been coaching young players at DaRock Elite Academy, founded by his Bermuda team-mate, Danté Leverock.
“It feels good to act as a stepping stone in these children’s developmental years in football,” he said.
“It’s a full circle moment as I used to train here when I was their age with the national academy, getting coached by the likes of Dennis Brown, Richard Todd and Maceo Dill.
Ross Weatherstone, the Binfield coach, described the defender’s absence this season as a massive loss for the team.
“Reese has been a huge loss to our starting line up this season, I feel the team would be in a much more secure position had we’d been able to get him on the pitch more,” Weatherstone said.
“Despite the lack of games, Reese has taken full advantage of our physiotherapist, Salil Das, at Binfield FC throughout his injury.
“He’s also had 24/7 access to the our gym facilities, which I know he has used relentlessly for rehabilitation, in his quest to get back on the pitch.
“The games he did play, he performed well and presented a solid version of himself, to the point I know he had National League teams assessing his work.
“I hope he’s able to get back to playing soon, so he can put his talent to work at the levels he should be.
“The only positive regarding the injury, from my point of view is, by not playing, it’s given him a focus on his bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, where he is completing his final dissertation, through the International Academy I run.”
