Beach volleyball teams set for Caribbean Championship

Hailey Trott, left, and Kayley Hamilton are competing together for first time

Two teams from Bermuda will represent the island at the Eastern Caribbean Beach Volleyball Championships in St Lucia this week.

Kayley Hamilton and Hailey Trott will be competing together internationally for the first time, but both athletes bring experience from previous competitions and have been preparing for this opportunity.

“It’s an honour to be able to represent Bermuda at this competition,” said Hamilton.

“My partner and I have been training hard and are excited to compete. The 2025 ECVA Championships showed what Bermuda is capable of and we’re committed to defend that standard, raise it, and prove we can go one step farther.”

Trott added: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to compete in St Lucia. We are proud to represent Bermuda and ready to give it everything we have.”

Trott and Hamilton face a tough opening stage after being seeded tenth in the 12-team competition. They face top seeds St Lucia, the host nation, Antigua’s first team and Dominica in pool A.

Ben Barnett and Sean Tucker won a silver medal at the 2025 championships and will be aiming to build on that success as they compete against top teams from across the region.

“I’m extremely excited to represent Bermuda in St Lucia,” Barnett said. “The goal for this year is simple, to improve on last year’s result by bringing home gold and we’re ready to fight for it.”

Tucker added: “I’m proud to represent Bermuda again at ECVA. Last year’s result showed what we’re capable of, and we’ve put in the work since then to come back stronger. We’re focused, motivated and ready to compete at a high level.”

Barnett and Tucker, who are seeded third at the competition, have been drawn in Pool C and will play Dominica and Antigua’s second team in the group stage.

The women’s team has been preparing under the guidance of National Beach Team head coach Ben Barnett, while both teams have also benefited from the extensive experience and technical expertise of coach Rick Bevis.

Action begins in St Lucia on Friday and continues through the weekend
