Two striking vessels call on Hamilton

A Royal Navy warship headed for the Caribbean on a mission against drug smugglers and to offer support to British Overseas Territories during hurricane season has called on Hamilton.

The HMS Trent moored near the Ela — a strikingly designed superyacht more than 160ft long with an aluminium hull built for lightness and strength.

The Ela was built in Netherlands by Heesen Yachts and delivered in 2021.

The Trent, based in Portsmouth, will work in tandem with the US Coast Guard to tackle drug trafficking in the region.

The ship made headlines in 2024 after it seized a “narco sub” and intercepted hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of illegal cargo.
